Investment in creative technology, often termed CreaTech, is one of the UK's most exciting high-growth frontiers, where creative skills and emerging technologies converge to produce new digital products, services, and experiences. With the UK targeting £31 billion in business investment in the sector by 2035, and significant momentum building across artificial intelligence, virtual reality, and immersive experiences, the opportunity is substantial. Since 2019, Arts Council England has invested over £4 million in creative practitioners developing AI-driven practice and the new skills to sustain it, signalling a broader shift in how public and private capital is beginning to recognise and back creative innovation.

Yet despite this momentum, the conversation between funders and creative professionals too often happens in parallel rather than together. This event is designed to change that.

The afternoon opens with a landscape overview of where investment in CreaTech currently sits, mapping the key players, funding mechanisms, and emerging opportunities across venture, public, and philanthropic capital.

Matt Cartmell

Chief Executive, Music Technology UK (MTUK)

Matt Cartmell is Chief Executive of Music Technology UK (MTUK), the trade body representing over 320 startups, scaleups, investors, and music industry stakeholders across the UK’s music tech ecosystem. Founded in 2023, MTUK exists to drive recognition of the UK as a global leader in music tech innovation - connecting founders with capital, opening doors to industry partnerships, and making the case to government for a sector that punches well below its weight in terms of investment and recognition.

Matt has spent 25 years across tech PR, music journalism, news reporting, and trade association leadership. He founded Carta Communications in 2019, working with music tech startups before spotting the same structural problems recurring across the sector and deciding to do something about it.

The centrepiece is a series of reverse pitches: instead of founders pitching to investors, investors pitch to the room, setting out what they are actively looking to fund, what they find missing in the ecosystem, and what kinds of creative technology projects they wish would land on their desks.

Whether you are a creative professional exploring routes to funding, an organisation building tools for the creative industries, or an investor looking to sharpen your understanding of this space, this is a practical and candid afternoon designed to connect available capital with creative ambition and to help you identify the partners and opportunities best suited to your needs.
